Hossein K. Hadisi PhD Music Composition
Hi, I’m Hossein K. Hadisi and I studied PhD Music Composition within Humanities at the University of Southampton.
I chose the University of Southampton due to its excellent reputation, high rankings and the professors teaching here. This is one of the top universities for music research and composition in the UK.
Hossein is from Iran and came to Southampton to study for a PhD in Music Composition in 2008.
Why did you choose your course?
Music has been the one and only passion in my life. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else!
Why did you choose Southampton?
Good reputation, high rankings and the professors teaching here. Music at Southampton is one of the top places for research and composition in the UK.
What do you like the most about your course?
The fact that it is an art course and challenges me to be more creative. That is perhaps the nature of music itself and my course provides me with the framework to show my abilities, enhance them and move forward.
What do you like most about the city and the University?
It is neither a huge busy city like London, nor a small town with not much happening. It seems that Southampton has a reasonably acceptable balance of modern life and human nature.
What is your favourite place to eat or drink?
Mainly in the University, the staff club or some other place where I can meet colleagues and talk about music, art, philosophy, etc.
What is your typical week like?
Composition most of the time (nights!), teaching during the days, spending lots of time in the library, going to the city centre for some walking/shopping/cultural events, staying in through the weekend.
What are you going to do after you have graduated?
If there is a job opportunity, I’d like to continue my teachings in the University and also proceed to my post-doc studies.
Anything else to say? Do you have any advice for a new first-year?
For a first year, all I can say is that try to make most of it here. Be courageous to go for different things, try new things and ask people about the things you don’t know. Don’t let any opportunity pass by you… before you know it, you’re already in the graduation ceremony!
