Hossein Hadisi, in third person.
“Hossein is an extremely accomplished composer and musician, conducting significant research into traditional Persian music, and into the potential interface of this material and contemporary Western European modes of composition. He has great imagination, initiative and sophistication.”
-Professor Michael Finnissy
Hadisi’s approach is highly interdisciplinary, encompassing not only musicology (including the formal analysis of improvised materials) and ethnomusicology (including ethnographic work with practitioners of Iranian traditional music), but also composition: as a musician trained to doctoral level in the compositional techniques of the Western ‘art’ music tradition, Hadisi will bring a composer’s understanding to Avaz, and the outcomes of his research will include not only an academic monograph but also a range of compositions. Indeed it is the enviable combination of his professional compositional background and his position as a cultural ‘insider’ that will make his project so highly distinctive.
